Modern defence operations increasingly rely on the ability to operate effectively across multiple domains while facing congested and contested electromagnetic environments.
Today’s platforms are challenged by:
/ Fragmented and specialised RF systems
/ Increasing electromagnetic interference
/ Limited spectrum availability
/ Size, weight and power constraints
/ The need for adaptability in rapidly evolving operational scenarios
Addressing these challenges requires a new generation of integrated, intelligent and flexible RF solutions.
SCEPTER aims to define the future of European multifunction RF systems by enabling multiple RF functions to operate together within a single, shared architecture.
By combining radar, electronic warfare and communication functionalities through a common Active Electronically Scanned Array, SCEPTER establishes a coherent approach to sensing, protection and connectivity.
This vision supports:
/ Enhanced situational awareness
/ Reduced electromagnetic footprint
/ Improved operational effectiveness
/ Greater system survivability

SCEPTER develops a European multifunction RF system concept based on five key principles:
/ Shared AESA architecture enabling multiple RF functions through a common aperture
/ Cognitive capabilities, supported by artificial intelligence and machine learning
/ Highly integrated RF hardware, meeting strict SWaP constraints
/ Modular and interoperable design, ensuring flexibility and scalability
/ Advanced modelling and digital twins, supporting efficient design and validation
Together, these elements enable adaptive operation in complex and congested electromagnetic environments.
